While it is not as big and as developed when compared to Cebu City, the city of Talisay is by itself a wonderful place.

As there are many versions regarding to how the city of Talisay got its name, the most prevalent one is that it is due to the presence of Magtalisay trees in the area. Talisay was initially a land that was owned by the Augustinians. It later became a municipality and in 2000, earned its right to be called a city.

Much like other parts of Cebu province, Talisay also boasts of its own unique stories. During the second World War, Talisay was the place where the Filipino Japanese resistance was centered. When the Americans returned to the Philippines, the beaches of Talisay served as one of the landing points of the Allied forces that eventually lead to the surrender of the Japanese forces in Cebu.

Talisay City also has its own tourist spots that you can visit. If you happen to be in the area, be sure to visit the Sta. Teresa De Avila Parish, which is said to be one of the oldest parish church in the Philippines. You can also visit the Talisay Landing Site and the Talisay Liberation Park to learn more about the people’s history.

If Cebu City has its Sinulog, Talisay City also has a festival of its own. You see, aside from being a historic landing site during the war, the City is also known for its “Inasal Baboy” or roasted pig. That alone could likely make your mouth water.

During the middle of October, the City holds its annual fiesta where roasted pig is served in almost every home. But it doesn’t stop there. The city also has a Lechon Festival where different lechon or roasted pig is paraded and showcased to represent the different clans residing in the city.

To those who are planning to live in Cebu, it is always important to keep in mind that the province has a lot of interesting places. The challenge is knowing in where to find it.
